Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Joe Burrow. 1. QB. LSU. player. 56

We all know what’s going to happen at No. 1 overall once the first-ever virtual NFL Draft kicks off. The Cincinnati Bengals will likely have more than their fair share of offers for the first pick but there’s no reason to take those. Instead, they’ll stay put and grab LSU quarterback Joe Burrow who is coming off a sensational season which resulted in a Heisman Trophy win as well as an NCAA Championship.

More from NFL Spin Zone

Burrow was able to do this after transferring from Ohio State to LSU and developing into a star for them. He was good in 2018, which was his first year with the Tigers. That season, he ended with 2,894 yards passing with an impressive 16-to-5 touchdown to interception ratio. However, in 2019, he was unbelievable.

The redshirt senior was on fire all season long and finished with 5,671 yards with an unreal 60 touchdown passes against just six interceptions. Those numbers in themselves were astonishing but it still doesn’t do justice to his play on the field. Burrow was able to win in a multitude of ways as he could pick a defense apart pre-snap but was also just as effective when things broke down and he had to improvise.

Cincinnati will be entering their second season under head coach Zac Taylor and it’s not going to be a shock to see him move on from Andy Dalton and get his own guy. Dalton likely gets moved shortly after this pick is made and while he deserves credit for the success he did have early in his career with the Bengals, there’s no denying the ceiling is much higher for Burrow.
