Dallas was expected to be in play for one of the more popular SEC edge rushers at No. 17 overall. Leading up to the draft, they were reportedly very interested in LSU’s K’Lavon Chaisson but they were also not expecting CeeDee Lamb to be available.

That ended up being the case and Dallas decided to take the Oklahoma receiver. Doing so left them with a need on the edge, in addition to their need at cornerback. With them solving the cornerback dilemma earlier in this mock, they now turn their attention back to the defensive end position and take Darrell Taylor from Tennessee.

Taylor was a guy who had no problem making plays for the Volunteers as he racked up 16.5 sacks over the past two seasons. Taylor managed most of his plays based solely on his athleticism as he’s considered an underdeveloped player both in the pass-rushing department as well as with run defense.

For Dallas, this isn’t a terrible thing. They already have several players who can play defensive end but they don’t have their long-term answer. Taylor can spend his rookie season working behind Tyrone Crawford and competing with Dorance Armstrong as well as Randy Gregory and Aldon Smith provided they are re-instated.

There’s no guarantees with any of them but Taylor’s addition makes sure they will have someone who could develop into a six-to-eight sack per season guy across from Pro Bowler DeMarcus Lawrence.
