Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Round 2. Pick 51. Trevon Diggs. CB. player. 829

With their first pick on Friday night, the Cowboys decide to add a defensive back that can come in and take over where Byron Jones left off. Dallas decided not to give Jones the money he was after and he wound up becoming the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL.

So far, Dallas has yet to adequately replace Jones and there was some talk they could look to do so at No. 17. However, with C.J. Henderson off the board, they were most likely going to wait until Round 2, and then with CeeDee Lamb falling, they were more than happy to wait.

Doing so pays off as the Cowboys find themselves on the clock at No. 51 in this mock with Trevon Diggs still waiting to hear his name called. Built like a wideout at 6-foot-1 and 205-pounds, Diggs has excellent hands and NFL bloodlines.

He began his career with the Crimson Tide playing wide receiver, which is the same position his brother Stefon Diggs plays for the Buffalo Bills. After making the move to cornerback, he ended up with four interceptions and 17 pass defenses while playing just one full season at the spot — he played only six games in 2018 after hardly seeing the field in 2017.

Diggs could start right away opposite Chidobe Awuzie and while he won’t be the same caliber player as Byron Jones, he can at least give them a formidable starting team.
