Round 2, No. 58 Overall: Josh Jones, OT, Houston

Original Pick: Ezra Cleveland, OT, Boise State

Honestly, I’m not upset about the Ezra Cleveland pick. The Vikings needed to find their left tackle of the future, and made a good move by bringing in the Boise State product. With that said, it’s arguable he wasn’t the best option on the board at that point in the draft.

Many would argue that Josh Jones would have been the superior selection at No. 59 overall.

It just comes down to what you’re looking for from your left tackle. In Jones, you’re getting terrific size, length and athleticism. However, he lacks elite strength and will need to gain some power to survive at the NFL level. His technique also needs some refinement, but pro coaching should more than solve that problem.

As for Cleveland, most of the tools are there. He’s athletic enough to live on the blindside, and offers exceptional technique at the position. At the same time, he has short arms that could limit his effectiveness against some of the league’s better, longer edge rushers. Some scouts even thought he could be forced inside at the next level.

Cleveland was a great get in the second round, but Jones may end up being the better player in the long run.
