Running Back: Ronald Jones II

Despite drafting former Vanderbilt running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn in the third round, this is still Jones’ job to lose. After spending his rookie season in ex-coach Dirk Koetter’s doghouse, he grew in his first season under Arians.

He seized the starting job from the departed Peyton Barber at midseason and ran the ball 172 times for 724 yards and six touchdowns. Not a bad second season at all — especially considering how minuscule his output was during year one.

Jones is a fast and elusive back who hits the hole and can burst into the secondary before the defense even knows what hit them. The problem is that he needs better blocking up front, especially at the tackle spots. That’s why general manager Jason Licht addressed the offensive line in free agency and the draft, which will be covered later on in this piece.

Now that Brady has taken over at quarterback, there’s no reason why Jones II can’t improve in year three. If he doesn’t, then Arians will turn things over to Vaughn.

No pressure, RoJo.
