Round 5, Pick 148: Danny Pinter, G, Ball State

Grade: B-

Danny Pinter is an athletic tackle who moved from tight end to the offensive line at Ball State two seasons ago. He has great feet and fluidity in his movements. At the 2020 NFL Combine, he ran a 4.9-second 40-yard dash showing off his athletic traits. Moreover, he measured 6-4, 306 pounds, and he has room to grow on his frame.

While he has the movement skills, he has short arms and burly build which makes him ideal for an offensive guard. He doesn’t have the ideal strength or power at the point of attack for the man-blocking Frank Reich sometimes runs.

Nevertheless, he slides well down the line and has the ideal quickness you want for a pulling guard. He also understands how to, and when to wash defenders. More ideally, his movement skills for a guard playing zone-blocking.

The Colts understand the importance of protecting the quarterback, as evidence look no further than them selecting a lineman with growth potential. This pick was about adding depth to an already solid offensive line. The issue is, Shane Lemieux was also available, a more polished player with more upside. Still, this was solid with a player ideally suited for a zone-blocking scheme.
