Round 2, Pick 55: J.K. Dobbins, RB, Ohio State

Grade: A

How did the NFL let this happen? The Ravens benefited from other teams opting to pass on a great talent. The Ravens didn’t need a running back but this was entirely too good to pass up. J.K. Dobbins is the perfect running back to bring into the RPO-heavy Ravens scheme.

The offense can mask the Ohio State product’s weaknesses and allow him to do what he does best. He’s going to make guys miss in the open field and break open some big runs. He’s a solid pass catcher who’ll help out on third downs or in certain packages. He’s a powerful runner who not only slips tackles but makes guys pay at the end of runs.

At Ohio State, he played with a quarterback similar to Lamar Jackson in Justin Fields. Dobbins will bring the necessary explosiveness to the Ravens running game missing from Mark Ingram. Early on, the NFL vet will get the bulk of the workload but expect Dobbins to run his way into a focal point of the offense.

He’s not going to be the guy in year one — that job belongs to Ingram. Even with that, don’t be surprised if Dobbins ends up with 50 catches and a 5.0 yards per carry average in his rookie season as he enters a perfect situation for him.
