2. Chicago Bears

Kyle Fuller‘s career with the Chicago Bears has not been particularly smooth, especially early on, but he’s developed into a high-quality player at the position. Having said that, Matt Nagy’s team needs some surefire answers as the position. While Jaylon Johnson was great value as a 2020 second-round pick, he may not be ready to contribute at a high level right away. And good luck banking on free-agent signing Artie Burns.

If the Bears were able to secure the services of Logan Ryan in free agency, however, Chicago could be in a much better position in the secondary. He would give them some versatility overall and the luxury to not rush Johnson into action early in his career. For a team that needs an elite defense to have a shot at the playoffs, this would make sense for the Bears.

1. New York Giants

With some low-key signings in free agency, the addition of Xavier McKinney in the 2020 draft and the development of players like Lorenzo Carter, Deandre Baker and Dexter Lawrence, the Giants defense could be in line to take a step forward in the first year under Joe Judge. There’s not a shortage of talent on that side of the ball for Big Blue.

However, New York currently has a hole in terms of their nickel cornerback role. While the hope is that Baker progresses and forms a nice one-two punch on the boundary with newcomer James Bradberry, the slot could be a problem for the Giants. Adding Logan Ryan, though, would provide them with an immediate answer. He could turn the secondary from a group with upside to a bonafide strength for Judge’s team.
