47. . . . Jarrett Stidham. 31. player

Sometimes, less is more. Compared to Haskins, we have significantly less tape of Jarrett Stidham in the NFL. The Auburn product played fairly well in the 2019 preseason, throwing for 731 yards and finishing with a 102.6 passer rating. However, Stidham only appeared in three regular-season games. He threw four pass attempts, one of which got intercepted and returned for a touchdown.

Not much separates Stidham from Haskins except greater hope remains that he’ll be able to move the ball consistently. Haskins threw worse than Mitchell Trubisky last season, and we haven’t seen enough of Stidham to determine what he brings to the table. However, the Patriots seem fully prepared to start Stidham this coming season. We’re about to find out what the fourth-round pick can accomplish in the NFL.

While some writers toss around the idea of New England signing a veteran to compete with Stidham, that seems highly unlikely. The Patriots drafted a bunch of players this year who won’t make significant impacts until two or three years down the line. This team is planning for the future. If Stidham performs well in 2020, maybe the Patriots will keep him around. If he plays poorly, then New England gets a good draft pick and can complete their quick rebuild.

Unfortunately for Stidham, he’s waking into a tough situation. The second-year quarterback must replace a living legend while performing with one of the worst supporting casts in the NFL. Even with Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels in his corner, Stidham seems set up to fail.
