Week 1: vs. Arizona Cardinals

The 49ers open up their season with Kyler Murray and the Cardinals. This team did give San Francisco trouble last year, with both of their matchups coming down to the final minutes. Still, the 49ers front-four should overwhelm the Arizona offensive line, a unit that ranked 27th in sacks allowed and added few improvements this offseason.

Prediction: 49ers 27, Cardinals 13

Week 2: at New York Jets

The 49ers begin their two-week trip on the East Coast by facing the New York Jets, another team that has offensive line issues. While the Jets did add five linemen in free agency and spent their first-round pick on the position, they’ll be overwhelmed this early in the season by the 49ers pass rush. Jimmy Garoppolo should also be able to have a field day against a Jets secondary that is lacking above-average cornerbacks.

Prediction: 49ers 34, Jets 10

Week 3: at New York Giants

The 49ers will likely stay on the East Coast as they prepare for the Giants. Unlike the Cardinals and Jets, the Giants were actually above average in protecting the passer last year, ranking 14th in sacks allowed. Yet, their quarterback has had major fumbling issues, fumbling the ball 18 times (losing 11 of them) in thirteen games. If the 49ers can get pressure, as they so often do, they’ll easily win the turnover battle.

Prediction: 49ers 30, Giants 14

Week 4: vs. Philadelphia Eagles – Sunday Night Football

The 49ers finally face an opponent that had a winning record in 2019, and the Eagles will be a challenge. Carson Wentz will likely have a full complement of weapons and the Philadelphia pass rush should have some success against an immobile Garoppolo. I’ll give San Francisco the edge due to home field advantage, but this will come down to the wire.

Prediction: 49ers 23, Eagles 20 (OT)
