Green Bay Packers: Way too early 55-man roster prediction for 2020 season
By Joe Kipp
Defense
Defensive line (6): Kenny Clark, Dean Lowry, Kingsley Keke, Treyvon Hester, Tyler Lancaster, Montravius Adams
Clark is a star, Lowry is a consistent starter and Keke figures to take a jump in Year 2. Hester, who the Packers signed in free agency, is the only newcomer of the group. Lancaster has been solid but unspectacular in two seasons. Adams could be in danger of being cut if he doesn’t improve in training camp.
Outside linebackers (5): Za’Darius Smith, Preston Smith, Rashan Gary, Tim Williams, Jonathan Garvin
The Smiths and Gary are locks to make the final roster. After that, there’s some tough competition. Williams and Garvin, a rookie seventh-rounder, beat out Randy Ramsey and Greg Roberts for the final two spots.
Inside linebackers (4): Christian Kirksey, Kamal Martin, Oren Burks, Ty Summers
Kirksey was signed in free agency to be the team’s No. 1 option. Martin, drafted in the fifth round this year, should make some noise as a rookie. Burks and Summers will need to make significant strides in order to stick around.
Safeties (4): Adrian Amos, Darnell Savage, Will Redmond, Raven Greene
Amos, Savage and Redmond are locks. Redmond was Green Bay’s special teams ace last season. Greene is the wild card. He’s talented but coming off an ankle injury that sidelined him for nearly all of 2019.
Cornerbacks (6): Jaire Alexander, Kevin King, Chandon Sullivan, Josh Jackson, Ka’dar Hollman, Stanford Samuels
Sullivan appears primed to be the team’s No. 3 option. Jackson is quickly entering bust territory and could be a surprise cut. Hollman is a special teams guy. Samuels is the undrafted gem who could emerge in preseason.
