3. Solomon Thomas

Three years ago, San Francisco had high expectations for Solomon Thomas following an impressive career at Stanford.

And while the potential is still certainly there for the former first-round pick, the fact that San Francisco decided this offseason not to pick up the fifth-year option on Thomas shows the 49ers may have other plans beyond the 2020 season.

With that being said, since Thomas is entering the final year of his rookie contract, the Bears could easily take advantage of the situation if the 49ers would rather get something in return now instead of nothing down the road if he were to hit free agency.

After starting 25 of 30 games in the first two years of his NFL career, the fact that Thomas only started three times in 2019 while appearing in all 16 games shows that San Francisco can afford to move on if needed.

Some Bears fans may feel hesitant towards bringing someone like Thomas onboard based on him taking somewhat of a step back in 2019, but for all they know, a fresh start on a new team could work out best for both parties.

Plus, if Solomon were to find a way to turn things around in Chicago, there’s always the chance of the Bears eventually locking him into a new contract to help keep the defense in better shape for years to come.
