The Dallas Cowboys have had a great offseason and they can solidify themselves as the biggest winners by swooping in and signing Jadeveon Clowney

The suitors for Jadeveon Clowney are drying up which is why the Dallas Cowboys need to just give him a call and close the deal. The former No. 1 overall pick spent last season with the Seattle Seahawks and was hoping to play his way into a big payday.

He did play well, even if his three sacks don’t show it, as he was ranked as the 20th best edge defender by Pro Football Focus (subscription required) with a score of 80.8. Even with that being the case, Clowney hasn’t had any luck this offseason finding a new home.

There were teams interested as both the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles were said to have kicked the tires in the NFC with the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns looking like suitors in the AFC.

As for the Seahawks, they seemed to have moved on once Clowney didn’t take the deal on the table and the rest of his suitors are also stepping back unless his price comes down drastically.

For Dallas, who was also said to be interested earlier this offseason, this seems like the perfect time to make a move. What held them back in the past was his salary request but if that’s not going to be a huge hurdle, they could offer him a great home where he could shine.

Just like Robert Quinn did in 2019, Clowney could use the Cowboys as a place to set himself up for a long-term deal in the coming year. Playing opposite DeMarcus Lawrence will give him some favorable matchups, which is how Quinn revived his career and recorded 11.5 sacks.

For Dallas, they would have to move some money around still to make it work. According to OverTheCap.com, they’re sitting at right around $5 million under the cap but could make some room by signing Dak Prescott or perhaps restructuring some of their higher-priced players.

It wouldn’t be cheap, even with his price down from the $20 million he wanted, but Clowney on a one-year deal allows Dallas time to search for their long-term answer at the right defensive end spot.

It sounds like a win-win for both parties as they each get what they want this season without committing to anything they don’t want to in 2021 and beyond.
