3. Jourdan Lewis, Cornerback

The writing has been on the wall for the past couple of seasons for Jourdan Lewis. Considered a steal in the third round back in 2017, Lewis played well as a rookie but then was placed in Kris Richard‘s doghouse once he took over as the defensive backs coach.

Richard preferred bigger corners and moved Byron Jones from free safety to cornerback and had him start opposite Chidobe Awuzie. Lewis was then fourth on the team since Anthony Brown was the better slot corner.

Even with the limited snaps, Lewis constantly proved he can make plays. In 2018, he had just 12 tackles and one pick but was the MVP of the team’s win over the New Orleans Saints. Not only did he stick with Alvin Kamara all game, but he picked off Drew Brees to shut down a late comeback attempt.

For his career, he has 117 tackles with four sacks (all of which came last season) and four interceptions. All of those numbers are even more impressive when you realize he was always trying to fight just to get on the field.

Unfortunately for Lewis, a new defensive coordinator might not mean he will be starting. Dallas seems to still be looking for bigger corners with the addition of Trevon Diggs and Reggie Robinson in the draft as well as Daryl Worley and Maurice Canady in free agency.

Lewis is going to have a long NFL career and he’s more than capable of being a multi-interception per season corner. The bad news is, it just might not happen in Dallas unless he’s able to beat out a few of these newcomers to convince the front office that he needs a second contract.
