17. team. 50. . . . Detroit Lions

They were the original purple people eaters before that was even a thing. Back in 1930, the Detroit Lions franchise was born, but they were known back then as the Portsmouth Spartans and work some interesting purple and black uniforms. For their second season in existence, they went with a yellowish-gold color that looks more like what the Minnesota Vikings would wear.

In 1934, they officially became the Lions and move to Detroit. That was when the silver and blue were introduced and that has been their primary color scheme ever since — although they did introduce some red and black jerseys during the 1940s and 1950s as well as some other helmets. Thankfully, that didn’t last long and they returned to what works for them.

Their recent uniforms were introduced in 2017 as they cleaned up a few things. One was removing black from their scheme, which was a good move. Back in 2005, they introduced the color as an alternate jersey and it just felt weird. They also reintroduced blue pants which are only okay.

It’s a better look than what they had but it’s still not as sleek or cool as what Barry Sanders wore back in the 1990s. Although, if we are being honest, the best look is their throwbacks with the pure silver helmet and solid blue jerseys they have often worn on Thanksgiving day. Those are special.
