2. Trade with Texans for Kenny Stills

The Houston Texans made it a priority to provide Deshaun Watson with a new receiving corps after head coach and general manager Bill O’Brien gave away All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals in an infamous trade that has plagued his regime and relationship with his young quarterback.

In doing so, the Texans picked up wide receivers Brandin Cooks and Randall Cobb in free agency while also drafting Isaiah Coulter in the fifth round. With three new wideouts on the roster and Will Fuller as the No. 1 option, Kenny Stills looks to be the odd man out of the group after only being targeted 55 times in 2019. This offers the opportunity for Green Bay to make an offer for the veteran receiver.

One of the biggest struggles for the Packers’ wide receiver core was dropped passes. Only three of the six wideouts on the roster in 2019 had a catch rate greater than 60 percent. Kenny Stills recorded a catch percentage of 72.7 in 2019 with the Texans, a nearly 15 percent increase from his 2018 campaign with the Miami Dolphins.

Adding Stills to their pass-catching options will provide the Packers with reliable hands for Rodgers to throw to and will be an immediate upgrade to the position. While he may not be an “attractive” name to add to this team, he will be a valuable player on this team that is desperately looking for help wide receiver.

Due to the lack of usage of the veteran receiver, Stills would come at a favorable cost for Gutenkunst while giving the opportunity to take advantage of O’Brien in the trade negotiations. He has notoriously been vulnerable in trade talks as seen by the steal the Cardinals came away with when they dealt overpaid David Johnson and just a second-round pick in 2020 in order to acquire Hopkins.
