Week 1: at Washington Redskins

Last year, the Redskins traveled to Lincoln Financial Field in Week 1. This season, the Eagles repay the favor by traveling to FedExField for the season opener. However, the change in location shouldn’t alter the outcome. Check off both games against Washington as victories for the Eagles.

The Redskins are one of the worst teams in the NFL and should own a top-five pick again next year. Unless the Eagles get off to a rough start, I don’t see how Washington could defeat Pederson’s team.

Prediction: Win

Week 2: vs. Los Angeles Rams

The Rams are heading in the wrong direction. Just over a year removed from appearing in the Super Bowl, Los Angeles looks like a floundering team trying to stay relevant in the ultra-competitive NFC West. After saying goodbye to Brandin Cooks, Dante Fowler, Todd Gurley, Cory Littleton, and Eric Weddle this offseason, Los Angeles could fall to fourth in the NFC West.

Week 2 presents the latest chance for Wentz to prove he’s better than Jared Goff. The two quarterbacks went back-to-back in the 2016 NFL Draft, and they each face their fair share of criticisms. However, expect Wentz to outplay his California counterpart.

Prediction: Win

Week 3: vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Unless Joe Burrow turns Cincinnati around overnight, the Bengals should still struggle at the start of the 2020 season. Burrow walks into a situation where there are a bunch of supporting pieces already in place. However, even the best rookies face sharp learning curves in the NFL. The Eagles possess an experienced, proven defense capable of neutralizing Cincinnati’s young star.

While the Bengals did add a few defensive pieces this offseason, the unit is still another year or two away from playing at a highly competitive level. On the off chance that Burrow and Cincinnati’s offense come out firing, Wentz and Philadelphia’s offense can respond and take over the game.

Prediction: Win

Week 4: at San Francisco 49ers

Some teams suffer a Super Bowl hangover when they come up short on the biggest stage. I don’t expect the 49ers to dominate as they did in 2019, but this is still at least a ten-win team. Even after losing some veterans this offseason, there’s a strong cast of Pro Bowlers in San Francisco. Right now, the 49ers are more talented than the Eagles.

The Eagles have a chance of upsetting the 49ers if San Francisco’s newest additions don’t mesh well early in the season. San Francisco replaced DeForest Buckner and Emmanuel Sanders with rookies Brandon Aiyuk and Javon Kinlaw. If both rookies struggle during the first half of the year, the 49ers could suffer.

Prediction: Loss
