Ever since Connor Williams joined the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, it seems as though he has been fighting an uphill battle. The former Texas offensive tackle was moved inside to guard and started the first eight games of his rookie season on the left side of the line.

Williams was considered the weak link of their line that season and was benched after eight games for Xavier S’ua-Filo. He did get a couple more starts when Zack Martin was hurt, although that time he was playing on the right side.

One of the biggest knocks on him was his size as Williams looked much leaner than guards normally do, which was surely from his days of playing tackle for the Longhorns.

In 2019, Williams came in with more bulk and was ready to prove himself. He started 11 games but a knee injury slowed him down. Now, he enters his third season with the team and there’s an outside chance he could face some competition.

Dallas will have a battle at center with Connor McGovern, Joe Looney, and Tyler Biadasz. With that battle going on, there could be a scenario where the rookie, Biadasz, takes over at center and McGovern could end up proving to be a better fit at guard than Williams.

Of course, this is speculation as we have yet to see McGovern play in the NFL as he spent his rookie season on IR. We also have yet to see Biadasz, but we do know this staff liked him enough to trade up in the fourth round for the Wisconsin center.
