Minnesota Vikings: 3 Glaring weaknesses heading into training camp
2. Offensive Line
One of the biggest weaknesses present on the Vikings team going into the upcoming season comes at the offensive line, an area that Minnesota has struggled to obtain a consistent group within for basically the last handful of seasons.
As the offensive line looks currently, it doesn’t look like it improved much from the 2019 campaign, when that unit was especially exposed in the NFC Division Round against the San Francisco 49ers in a game that ended the Vikings’ season.
With a lack of talent to some extent and basically not much depth within the front line, Minnesota has done little to try and sore up that area on offense to help protect quarterback Kirk Cousins and open holes in the running attack led by Dalvin Cook.
During the offseason, the Vikings did manage to bring in an intriguing young prospect via the draft when they drafted Ezra Cleveland out of Boise State in the NFL Draft. If he is able to develop quickly and prove to be a good addition early on in the season, we could see Cleveland getting some serious playing time on the line during his rookie campaign.
Right now, Minnesota’s depth chart within the offensive line consists of the likes of Riley Reiff, Cleveland, Rashod Hill, Pat Elflein, Garrett Bradbury, Brett Jones, Brian O’Neill and others. It is somewhat of a younger group, but one that still needs improving.
For a team that relies on the running attack setting the tone for things offensively and will continue to do so for at least the 2020 season, there still is a big weakness remaining on the offensive line to be able to allow that ground game to indeed set any sort of tone.
Although this area on the team isn’t listed as the top overall weakness, there is no question that the offensive line is still be biggest glaring issue on the offensive side of the ball once again for the purple and gold.
