The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly interested in a David Njoku trade.

David Njoku is serous about being traded. The Cleveland Browns tight end recently moved on from his previous agent and hired Drew Rosenhaus, one of the league’s super-agents who has become notorious for getting his clients what they want — whether that be a new contract or a new home.

He did this for a Browns player just one season ago as he took over Duke Johnson’s representation and helped force a trade to the Houston Texans. Now, he could be getting another Cleveland player moved to the Lone Star State as the Dallas Cowboys are reportedly interested in making a trade for the former first-round pick.

Of course, no trades are ever easy and according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, there are a couple of layers at play here. While she does say Dallas is interested, she also suggests the Browns could simply hold onto Njoku.

"“But the Browns, who picked up his fifth-year option in April worth about $6.4 million for the 2021 season, want to keep him and would likely want a first-round pick to trade him, one source told cleveland.com. The Cowboys are one team that might have some interest, another source said.” — Cabot, Cleveland.com"

This could be posturing by Cleveland, as they clearly don’t have Njoku in their long-term plans. Or at least they aren’t acting as if they do.

In free agency, the Browns signed Austin Hooper away from the Atlanta Falcons and made him the highest-paid tight end in football in doing so. They also used a fourth-round pick on Florida Atlantic’s Harrison Bryant, who is a solid pass-catching tight end in his own right.

Cowboys interest in David Njoku trade makes a ton of sense.

As for the Cowboys, their interest also comes with some layers to it. They’ve struggled to find their heir to Jason Witten for years but this offseason they seemed to believe they found their guy. Blake Jarwin, who is coming off his best season as a pro, was given a three-year, $24.25 million extension in the offseason, meaning the team truly believes he can continue to develop.

Perhaps they could be of the belief that Njoku and Jarwin could battle it out to see who should be their long-term answer, which isn’t the worst idea.

Of course, it will all come down to the asking price. Cleveland is apparently starting high and asking for a first-round pick. There’s no way that’s happening in Dallas, or anywhere for that matter.

Should Cleveland decide to back off that price and take a third-round pick, this deal could get done. Anything higher than that, Dallas would probably roll with Jarwin and allow the Browns to look for another suitor.
