Joe Burrow got love in the Madden 21 player ratings — Justin Herbert, not so much.
Given the way the 2020 NFL Draft process played out, it was a lock that Joe Burrow would be the No. 1 overall pick to the Cincinnati Bengals. The question was always how the quarterbacks after him would fall in line. And the same thought process applied to the Madden 21 player ratings. We now have the answer to both questions.
On Thursday, EA Sports revealed the Madden 21 player ratings for the rookie quarterbacks coming into the 2020 season. With a 76 overall rating, Burrow leads the way and by a relatively wide margin. Though the Miami Dolphins selected Tua Tagovailoa just four picks later at No. 5, his overall rating (73) is three points lower than Burrow’s.
Perhaps the most shocking part of the player ratings reveal, though, is that Jordan Love (No. 26 overall to the Packers) is actually one point higher than the No. 6 overall pick, Justin Herbert, 71 to 70, respectively. Though there are questions about Herbert, there are just as many about Love. It’s clear that the newest Chargers quarterback is simply getting no love at all.

It’s also worth noting that, after the first five quarterbacks selected (Burrow, Tua, Love, Herbert and Jalen Hurts), the ratings drop off. Hurts is a 68 overall and the next highest after him is Jacob Eason with a paltry 63.

Unless you’re building a franchise and want to play as your favorite team’s new rookie quarterback, the rookie signal-callers — as is always the case — aren’t going to be particularly valuable commodities in Madden 21. Then again, that may just allow you to show off how good you are on the sticks if you can consistently win with any of these guys under virtual center.
