Madden 21 ratings: 5 NFL players rated too high, 5 rated too low
Von Miller is overrated in Madden 21
Current Rating: 97 OVR | Suggested Rating: 93 OVR
If Von Miller was rated as a 97 overall coming into last year’s game, the Denver Broncos edge rusher would’ve had a gripe for that being too low. After all, he was coming off of a 14.5-sack season and averaging 12.6 quarterback takedowns per year over his previous five campaigns. But coming off of the 2019 season, things have changed a bit.

Miller, who is now entering his age-31 season with the Broncos, showed his first sign of slowing up last year. He dealt with injuries throughout the season and ended up with only 8.0 sacks. That’s the only time in his nine-year career that he played double-digit games and failed to reach double-digit sacks. Coming off that type of year, he shouldn’t be rated like one of the league’s elite edge rushers.
Za’Darius Smith is underrated in Madden 21
Current Rating: 88 OVR | Suggested Rating: 92 OVR
After four years with the Baltimore Ravens, edge rusher Za’Darius Smith signed a lucrative deal with the Green Bay Packers last offseason. That turned out to be a boom for the Cheeseheads as the pass-rusher performed at an extremely high level. Smith registered a career-high 13.5 sacks to go with 17 tackles for loss and 37 QB hits.
Given that kind of breakout production on his new team, Smith deserved to at least get a 90 overall rating on the upcoming video game. He’s that impactful of a pass-rusher who is also solid against the run. Maybe 92 is reaching a bit too far but, in my opinion, it’s more indicative of the type of force Smith proved he can be with Green Bay last season.
