New York Jets: Goodbye and good riddance, Jamal Adams
The New York Jets improved their long-term outlook by trading Jamal Adams.
The Jamal Adams saga is officially over for the New York Jets.
Multiple reports on Saturday confirm that the All-Pro safety has been traded to the Seattle Seahawks along with a fourth-round pick in 2022. In return, the Jets will get first-round picks in 2021 and 2022, a third-round pick in 2021 and safety Bradley McDougald. Quite the haul coming back to New York.
In this trade, the Jets got a ton of highly valuable draft capital. Yes, it would’ve been great to land an offensive player, preferably a wide receiver, in return for Adams but, in reality, that was probably always asking for a bit too much. The deal they got was about as good as they could’ve asked for.
Jamal Adams is gone — now what for the New York Jets?
Adams is off the team and, with the return they got for him, that’s good new for the Jets. His diva-like behavior was off-putting from a player who was supposed to be a leader and face of the franchise. Now, New York will no longer have to deal with his contract demand and public airing of dirty laundry.
For as positive of a position as the draft picks acquired puts the Jets in, the biggest negative is that Adam Gase, who Adams opened up about recently with the media, remains the head coach in New York. Even if Adams’ means of doing so was less than ideal, his assertions about Gase weren’t far off.
Adams was not a problem in and of himself. His diva-like behavior was the result of a locker room lacking accountability and respect, which comes down from the top — namely from Gase. Until he’s gone, there will continue to be problems that the team won’t be able to get past.
As the Jets have acted quickly to get Adams out of the building, they need to do the same with Gase. He’s toxic for this team and will only continue to poison this group on and off the field.
