Predicting Dallas Cowboys 2020 depth chart: Tight Ends

Dallas Cowboys tight ends: Fighting for a spot
The Cowboys don’t have a lot of experience at the tight end spot outside of the top two players, so realistically, there could be a position open — especially if they go four deep. However, the current prediction is that they only carry three, unless one of the guys on the bubble stands out.
Cole Hikutini
After a solid career at Louisville, Cole Hikutini entered the 2017 NFL Draft with some intriguing physical tools. Even so, he was undrafted and picked up by the San Francisco 49ers. He logged some time as a rookie but spent the past two seasons on practice squads for the Minnesota Vikings in 2018 and Cowboys in 2019.
He’s a long-shot to make the team in 2020 but he has more skill as a pass-catcher than Dalton Schultz. But that might not be enough to win a spot.
Charlie Taumoepeau
Charlie Taumpoepeau is a highly intriguing prospect out of Portland State. His height is less than ideal at just 6-foot-2 but he was an excellent pass catcher collegiately which led to him earning First-Team All-Big Sky honors in 2019.
For Taumpoepeau, the loss of the preseason will hurt his chances of making the team since that’s when he would have been able to really make his mark. Without the exhibition games for him to get some work in, the practice squad seems likely for this season.
Sean McKeon
Like Taumpoepeau, Sean McKeon is an undrafted free agent for the Cowboys. A three-year starter at Michigan, McKeon was hampered by a hamstring injury that limited him at the NFL Combine. Then, he was unable to participate in a pro day thanks to the COVID-19 outbreak.
He does land on a team that will give him a great chance of making the final roster. His numbers at Michigan won’t wow anyone but he’s a solid blocker and could have some upside down the road.
