3. New England Patriots

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has unequivocally proved he can win with an old quarterback. It is unclear just how effective Rodgers will be in 2020, but if he is a facsimile of his usual self–the Patriots will inquire about him.

The 2020 Patriots will be the most intriguing team in the NFL as nobody, fans or pundits, have seen what Belichick is capable of sans Tom Brady in a long time. The Patriots will also be without several players from their 53-man roster as a significant number of players have opted out of the season due to coronavirus concerns.

If the season is to go off the rails by New England’s lofty standards, the organization will be at square one. The team may draft its next quarterback but does Bill Belichick have time for that given his age? Belichick is 68 years-old. A “win now” opportunity, should it present itself, could be more alluring than a developmental project at the quarterback position.

More importantly for Belichick, a Rodgers acquisition would drive the world nuts. Just the sort of tomfoolery Belichick craves.

New England will have north of $90 million cap space next offseason, so the numbers add up. The only hurdle to clear will be to convince Packers brass that trading a sure-fire Hall of Famer into the arms of Belichick is a rational idea.
