Packers camp position battle No. 3: Tight Ends/H-Back
Players Competing: James Looney, Evan Baylis, Josiah Deugara, Marcedes Lewis, Jace Sternberger, Robert Tonyan
Based on Matt LaFleur and the Packers’ latest draft class, there is going to be a change in the Packers scheme and style. With that change, there is going to be a clear featuring of tight ends and H-Backs. Therefore, the competition for the position will be close.

The majority of the Packers’ tight ends are on the younger side of things. Robert Tonyan has been in the NFL since 2017, Jace Sternberger is entering his second year and Josiah Deugara is going to be a rookie entering the 2020 season. The only older player in the group is 36-year-old Marcedes Lewis.
Even though the Packers’ tight ends are young, they’re still a talented group. Sternberger has promise as a route-runner and pass-catcher, even if he is a bit on the smaller side for the position. Meanwhile, Deguara is another quality route-runner in addition to being a tenacious blocker, though he’s not a top-tier athlete.
LaFleur’s usage of the tight end position in his ideal offense, which the Packers are clearly turning more towards, is what makes this battle so important. Thus, whoever emerges as the best option of the young players at the position will play a key role for this group in the 2020 season. The good news is that Green Bay has options.
