2. Delanie Walker, Tight End

The Cowboys tight end room is going to look different this year now that Jason Witten is gone. Again. Of course, this isn’t unfamiliar as they were in a similar situation in 2018 when Witten retired and took a job with ESPN calling Monday Night Football games.

Witten didn’t pan out in that role and he came back to Dallas for one more season but is now with the Las Vegas Raiders. With him out, the Cowboys will turn to Blake Jarwin who received a healthy extension in the offseason and is now expected to be a focal point of their offense.

However, there’s not a lot behind him. Dallas has Blake Bell and Dalton Schultz as the primary reserves and neither one has really done a whole lot in their respective careers — especially in the passing game. For that reason, the Cowboys could look to add a free agent in camp should things look bleak and one possible player for them to add is veteran Delanie Walker.

Of course, there are some concerns with Walker as he’s been struggling to stay healthy as of late — playing in just one game in 2018 and seven in 2019. He was released after seven seasons with the Tennessee Titans but he still was productive in his short time on the field last year, catching 21 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns.

Walker could give Dallas some veteran depth and with no ties to the team, he wouldn’t be a progress stopper the way Witten was in 2019. Instead, he could be a player who helps Jarwin take the next step and could fill in as the starter in a pinch.
