Dak Prescott should bring Cowboys fans nothing but positive vibes right now.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a Dallas Cowboys fan who wasn’t hoping that the franchise and quarterback Dak Prescott would reach a long-term contract in the 2020 offseason. Subsequently, many fans were disappointed when a deal wasn’t reached, leaving Prescott to play out the year on the franchise tag and possibly enter free agency in 2021.

Despite that big of negativity, there has remained positivity around Prescott. Him playing under new head coach Mike McCarthy with possibly the best wide receiver trio in the NFL brings high hopes after producing the best season of his career. More importantly, there are many who still believe that a contract between Dak and the Cowboys can get worked out.

Among those hopeful in that regard are Prescott himself. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the quarterback said that he wants to retire in Dallas, per Mike Leslie of WFAA:

Per ESPN’s Ed Werder, Prescott also added that he still thinks that the two sides can eventually work out a contract that’s amenable to both parties. While that could potentially be lip-service for fans, all signs to this point have indicated that the quarterback wants to occupy that position for the Dallas Cowboys, not one of the other 31 teams. Therefore, why should fans believe anything but the optimistic outlook with the young signal-caller?

Cowboys’ immediate and long-term future seems bright with Dak Prescott.

First and foremost, the 2020 NFL season should be fun for Cowboys fans with Prescott at the helm. He’s been effective since the moment he was thrust into action as a fourth-round rookie amid injuries. But he’s clearly started to take big leaps forward, which showed in the box score last season. And now he has the best coaching staff and set of weapons he’s worked with yet.

As for that coaching staff, they too are high on what the quarterback can do for Dallas this season. McCarthy praised his quarterback recently in comments to the Dallas Morning News, highlighting his leadership and how he was picking up the new playbook. From those types of comments, we can assume that the coaches want to keep him around as well.

Beyond this season, though, every sign has been that Prescott is part of the long-term plan. The Cowboys front office and fans alike believe, in this new offense, that he can lead the team back to Super Bowl glory. So if Prescott is to be taken at his word regarding wanting to retire at Dallas — and he’s given us no reason to truly think otherwise — then why would you not be positive about what’s to come with the quarterback playing for America’s Team.

With how things currently stand and looking at the full scope, Cowboys fans should be nothing but encouraged with Dak Prescott. He’s the quarterback for 2020, no matter what, and that could produce one heck of a season. But even beyond that, the safe money would be on him sticking around in Dallas well after this year.
