Because of the big run at running back — no pun intended — in the first round of this fantasy football mock draft, only five wide receivers were off the board when I came back up at 2.09. Moreover, the running back value at that point was completely suppressed. So instead of reaching for a back and knowing that another pick of mine was coming soon, I went for another bold call.

Travis Kelce going in the back-half of the second round isn’t necessarily all that crazy. He’s the top tight end in fantasy this season (with George Kittle close behind) and is a monster in all formats given his production and usage. So it made sense to get an edge over the rest of the league at that position by taking him here.
Kelce led the Chiefs in targets (136), receptions (97) and receiving yards (1,229) last season while catching five touchdowns last season. He finished the year as the No. 1 tight end in fantasy and his 15.9 fantasy points per game was matched only by Kittle but the 49ers tight end missed two games last season while Kelce played in all 16.
After signing a big contract extension, Kelce’s monster role in this offense isn’t going to change and, actually, I like for his touchdown numbers to improve from last season. Subsequently, pairing him early with his new teammate, Edwards-Helaire, gives this fantasy roster a solid foundation out of the gate.
