Dallas Cowboys: 3 Options to replace Gerald McCoy
By Randy Gurzi
3. Hit the open market
There’s not a lot left in free agency right now, but there are some players who can help. Dallas knows this as they just recently signed Everson Griffen who is projected to start at defensive end. They won’t find any three-technique defensive tackles with the pedigree Griffen gave them in free agency now, but there are a couple of players who could, at the very least, provide some depth.

Nazir Jones
A product of North Carolina, Nazir Jones was once a well-thought of draft prospect. The Seattle Seahawks took him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft and he spent the past three seasons with them. However, he has yet to truly make the impact in the NFL that was expected out of him.
Jones played in just 20 games in his first two campaigns and had 26 tackles and two sacks. He then missed all of the 2019 season with a knee injury before being released ahead of 2020. If healthy, he could be a player worth taking a risk on as he has some upside as well as a possible chip on his shoulder following the slow start to his career.
Daniel Wise
Last year, the Cowboys added Daniel Wise as a free agent out of Kansas. He spent the season on the practice squad before being waived in March of 2020. Wise has football in his blood as his brother Deatrich Wise plays for the New England Patriots and his father was a CFL star.
At Kansas, he was constantly getting into the backfield from his interior position which is exactly what they were hoping for McCoy to provide. Wise wouldn’t be a starting candidate but he could take over a reserve role, allowing the Cowboys to start someone else and still have depth.
