Brett Favre is trying to tear the Green Bay Packers apart
Legendary Packers quarterback Brett Favre is trying to drive Aaron Rodgers out.
The Green Bay Packers franchise leader in passing yards (61,655), passing touchdowns (442), interceptions (286) and wins (160), an 11-time Pro Bowler, three-time All-Pro, three-time NFL MVP and Super Bowl champion. All of this describes quarterback Brett Favre when he wore the green and gold as the face of the Packers.
Now, he wears a golden jacket as an inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. While he is still widely regarded as the best quarterback to have graced Wisconsin, his reputation has dropped drastically over the offseason.
In the 2020 NFL Draft, Brett Favre was given a wave of nostalgia when Green Bay made a controversial transaction, trading up for the No. 26 overall selection to take Utah State quarterback Jordan Love.

Upon this selection, Favre pondered back to the 2005 draft when the Packers drafted Aaron Rodgers out of Cal at No. 24 overall when Favre was 36 years old — the same age Rodgers is going into the 2020 season.
Despite the organization appearing as though they want to move on from Rodgers, they have placed major emphasis on Rodgers remaining as their starter for a long time. With the media already in a frenzy over this mind-boggling move of selecting Love, Favre decided that it was his turn to chime in on the situation.
Brett Favre is only fracturing the Packers with his input on the offseason.
This was the moment that he had been waiting for ever since he heard Rodgers’ name announced in 2005. In an interview, Favre stirred the pot by sharing his thoughts on the move, saying he could see Rodgers leaving Green Bay in the near future. On top of all this, Brett Favre went a step even further, stating he would “love to see Aaron Rodgers on the Bears” in an interview with the media, per NBC Sports.
Following his comments, it is clear that he doesn’t care about Green Bay. He simply wants to create chaos for his former team after they decided to move on from him by placing their trust in a younger player.

What is so disheartening is that Favre is just craving attention. He wants to ruin what the Packers have because he’s still upset over the transition from him as the starter to Rodgers. The difference in these two situations, however, is that they actually intend on holding onto Rodgers as opposed to forcing Favre out of town.
With Love’s current status, he won’t be able to even compete for the starting job for another few years based on head coach Matt LaFleur’s comments on the rookie.
In the 2004 NFL season, Favre finished with a 10-6 record after completing 346 passes on 540 attempts (64.1 percent) for 4,088 yards, 30 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. He would finish the year with an early postseason exit after losing 30-17 to the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card Round.
In comparison, Aaron Rodgers finished with a 13-3 record in the 2019 season after completing 353 passes on 569 attempts (62.0 percent) for 4,002 yards, 26 touchdowns and four interceptions with a rookie head coach. He and his teammates would make it to the NFC Championship Game, losing in an ugly 37-20 matchup against the San Fransisco 49ers.
While they were both the same age in the season the Packers drafted their future successor, Rodgers’ stats don’t tell the whole story as he dealt with lackluster playmakers and an entirely new offensive scheme, leading to “average statistics” in 2019. He has shown no signs of slowing down as he can still sling the ball 40 yards with a flick of the wrist. This leads to the biggest contrast between the two situations: the difference in prospects.
When Rodgers was drafted, he had the talent to take the starting role right away but could still use a few years of development regarding his mentality and emotions when dealing with the starting job.

In contrast, Jordan Love, while he has incredible raw talent, is just that: Raw. He will need several seasons to truly develop and model into the quarterback LaFleur needs for his play-action offense. In that time, he will be able to learn from a guy who not only has seen and done it all but also who throws and plays similar to his own style.
Mentally, Rodgers is not like Favre who will shun and ignore his future successor. The way Favre treated Rodgers when he came into the league is something Rodgers will be sure to avoid. He may not be thrilled about the situation but he understands that from an organizational standpoint the team is simply securing their future.
He knows he’s going to start for the remainder of his contract that lasts through the 2023 season. As he then turns 40 years old, the team will make an executive decision based on both Love’s and Rodgers’ status to decide where to go. When it comes to Favre, he is nothing more than someone who just wants to create chaos due to his own arrogance and selfishness.
As a former diehard fan of the original Gunslinger, it’s embarrassing to even have his name in the same sentence as the Green Bay Packers. He’s no hero and he surely has no say in what Aaron Rodgers does in his career.
