Dallas Cowboys could finally land Earl Thomas

The Dallas Cowboys could still land Earl Thomas after all.
For years, the Dallas Cowboys flirted with the idea of bringing Earl Thomas back to the state where he grew up. However, they never pulled the trigger on a deal with the Seattle Seahawks and then balked at his asking price in free agency last season.
Despite interest from Dallas, Thomas ended up signing with the Baltimore Ravens who were willing to offer a much more lucrative deal. However, after just one season, it appears Thomas could be on the way out.
After a fight between Thomas and teammate Chuck Clark at the Ravens’ team facility, the decision-makers in Baltimore are reportedly ready to move on from the former All-Pro safety.
The question for Dallas is whether or not they should still be interested. One of the biggest attractions for them back in 2018 and 2019 was his tie to defensive backs coach Kris Richard, who worked with Thomas in Seattle. The other was their glaring need at the position.
However, in 2020, the Cowboys no longer employ Richard meaning the only real connection between the two sides is the fact that Thomas was a Dallas Cowboys fan growing up. Also, the need for safety is not what it once was thanks to the addition of Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in free agency — plus new defensive coordinator Mike Nolan is considering moving Chidobe Awuzie from cornerback to safety.
Another factor to consider is the way the shine has come off Thomas’ star recently. He had a crazy off-field incident that resulted in his wife holding him at gunpoint and now the fight with Clark could indicate Thomas might be more trouble than he’s worth.
Even with the red flags, the Cowboys front office would surely be willing to kick the tires if Thomas is released, especially since they could probably finally get him for the price they’ve wanted to pay all along.
