Well, that almost happened last weekend. It was announced on Saturday, Aug. 22, that nine Chicago Bears players tested positive for the virus. There were 77 positive tests among 11 teams, all of them coming from a New Jersey lab. The NFL’s worst fears were becoming a reality. A spike like this could very well spell doom for the season.
Turns out, however, that all of those tests ended up being false positives. All the players who tested positive were retested and they all were negative. Furthermore, they went back to test the original positive tests and those tests were negative as well.
As a precaution, the Bears moved their Sunday practice a few hours later to make sure all was well.
The NFL said it’s launching an investigation into the tests since there was a large number of those tests coming from just one lab.
The actual number of confirmed number of players on the COVID-19 positive list is just four. Aside from what is happening from that New Jersey lab, it appears that the NFL is doing a pretty good job of handling the virus, especially since the players aren’t in a bubble like the one the NBA has for its players.
