The least important positions in single quarterback fantasy football leagues are kicker and team defense. Quarterback would be next, given the depth of the position in the 1QB format, although many incorrectly perceive tight ends to be more expendable.

In leagues with deeper benches, tight ends are a bit more valuable than quarterbacks for a few reasons. Starting simply, while no NFL team features two starting quarterbacks, several employ two tight end sets; others are integrating athletic pass-catching tight ends into their offenses more often with increasing regularity.

In a pinch, tight ends can also start in a flex position. This isn’t always advisable, but if running back values dry out, it may be easier to field a lineup with two starting-caliber tight ends during bye weeks.
