Which five teams could pull off an upset as underdogs in NFL Week 1?

Thursday night will be the first action of the 2020 NFL season as the Houston Texans will visit the Kansas City Chiefs for the opening night of the season. NFL Week 1 action will start out with two offensive powerhouses as the Chiefs begin their NFL championship defense.

Of course, this will be anything but a normal season as many teams won’t be able to have fans in attendance — while some will, albeit at a very reduced capacity. The good news though, is there will be football despite the concerns facing our nation and for that reason, we get to focus on the games at hand.

All 32 teams will be in action and all start out with a record of 0-0. That doesn’t necessarily mean all teams are equal as there will still be heavy favorites to win scattered all over the league. Here we look at those favorites and identify five that should be very wary of the underdog who will be gunning for them.

Overlooking an opponent something that we see often in the NFL, and some teams don’t learn from it. In 2019, a good example was when the 1-2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers went to Los Angeles to play the 3-0 Los Angeles Rams. The Rams were a heavy favorite, but Tampa won it by a score of 55-40, which was completely unexpected.

There were also some postseason upsets as the Tennessee Titans knocked off not only the Baltimore Ravens but also the New England Patriots. Again, these were stark reminders that in the NFL, no one can take an opponent lightly.

With that being said, here are five teams favored to lose in NFL Week 1 that could escape with a victory. (Note: All odds come from DraftKings Sportsbook via The Action Network.)
