5. Philadelphia Eagles

Coming into the season, the Philadelphia Eagles were one of the teams in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. The injury bug that has been plaguing them for the last few years, especially quarterback Carson Wentz, struck them earlier than usual before the season even started.

In training camp, the Eagles lost starting left Andre Dillard for the season with a biceps injury and that was just the beginning. The Philadelphia injury report looked more like Week 15 than Week 1 as right tackle Lane Johnson, wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, running back Miles Sanders and two starters on the defensive line were all ruled out against Washington.

It looked at first that their absences would not impact the game as the Eagles ran out to a 17-0 lead but Washington ratcheted up the pressure, sacking Wentz eight times and scoring 27 unanswered points to seal the game. What started off so well quickly turned in to disaster and it gets no easier for the Eagles in Week 2 as they welcome the Los Angeles Rams to Lincoln Financial Field.

The Rams are a formidable opponent and the lack of home-field advantage and a poor offensive line could easily see them drop to 0-2 unless there is a dramatic change in the team’s health this week.

They follow the Rams game with a visit from the Cincinnati Bengals and a trip to San Francisco on Sunday Night Football, so a 1-3 start is very much on the cards. The Eagles desperately need a win against LA in Week 2 or it may be a very long season in Philadelphia.
