This might be a strange thing to say coming out of a week in which Sam Darnold threw two pick-sixes and played one of the worst games of his NFL career but I’m not sold on the notion of him being an outright bust. There is a path for the former USC Trojan to get into a better situation and capitalize on his talent.

Having said that, that situation can’t be with the New York Jets. There is simply too much scar tissue for the player, the organization and the fanbase from the past three seasons to conceivably imagine that this situation is salvageable. They need to trade him after the 2020 campaign and get whatever value he has left from him in return.
Moving on from Darnold would open the door for Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence to come to the Big Apple and be the savior.
From the moment he came out of high school, NFL fans have been waiting for Lawrence to be draft-eligible and the time has finally come. The signal-caller checks every single box from a physical aspect with a pristine arm and sneaky athleticism on a big-bodied frame.
The fact that Lawrence has come out looking locked in during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 speaks even more to his confidence and maturity. With a cultural reset for the Jets, there’s no better player to start with than Lawrence.
