Dallas Cowboys studs and duds from emotional Week 5 win
By Randy Gurzi
Stud: CeeDee Lamb
It seemed as though the New York Giants defense was doing all they could to keep Amari Cooper from beating them. The Cowboys No. 1 wideout had just two receptions on the day — although one was a huge catch on the game-winning drive. With him being taken out of the gameplan early, rookie CeeDee Lamb stepped up.
No. 88 had a team-high eight receptions on 11 targets for 124 yards as he continues to put together a fantastic rookie season. As frustrating as it can be to watch this defense, it’s understandable why they didn’t use their top pick to address that side of the ball. Lamb has arguably been the best rookie receiver and he seems to get better each and every week.
Dud: The entire secondary
It’s beyond discouraging at this point. It doesn’t matter who the Cowboys play, their secondary simply can’t cover anyone. This week was supposed to be different with the way the Giants have struggled to move the ball on offense. But it wasn’t. It was just simply more of the same.
New York finished with 222 yards passing and Darius Slayton led the way with 129 yards on eight receptions. There were also countless times when a player was running free on third-downs, and there were also a couple of times the secondary was bailed out by a penalty on New York or a dropped pass.
This unit has been bad and they’re showing no signs of getting better. Even against a struggling offense, they were beyond bad.
