The Dallas Cowboys secondary is bad — like historically bad. They have allowed 1,243 yards in the first five games through the air but that number doesn’t do their play justice since it includes a game where Baker Mayfield had less than 200 yards passing on them as the ground game for Cleveland went for more than 300 yards.

What’s really bad though, is the way they simply can’t generate turnovers. In Week 1, Chidobe Awuzie picked off a Jared Goff pass and that’s the lone interception on the season. Put that against their 12 touchdown passes allowed and it’s easy to see why fans are still furious over the departure of Byron Jones.

Dallas can’t go back in time and re-sign Jones but they can end up landing a new No. 1 corner in the upcoming draft. And with Dak Prescott out with a broken ankle, they could end up having a good enough draft pick to land a difference-maker. Here, they do exactly that with Shaun Wade from Ohio State.

Wade is yet another stud corner who has been a star for the Buckeyes and he should have no problem transitioning to the NFL. Putting him on one side and Trevon Diggs on the other could be the start to a much-needed turnaround in the secondary. Unfortunately, it comes at a cost as they have to again wait for a safety and they also have a problem at offensive tackle to address, which also has to wait.

Even so, this is the best possible addition for them as Wade is not only a sure-fire future Pro Bowler, but this is the No. 1 need on the roster right now (assuming they do the right thing and retain Prescott that is).
