5. The tight ends need to help Foles

The Chicago Bears have seen a great improvement in their tight ends unit from last season. In 2019, the tight ends unit made 46 catches for 416 yards and two touchdowns. In just six games in 2020, however, they already have 30 catches for 265 yards and five touchdowns.

Jimmy Graham leads the way with 22 catches for 203 yards and four touchdowns. Rookie Cole Kmet has just three catches for 32 yards but got his first career touchdown last week against the Panthers. Demetrius Harris has five catches for 30 yards.

Foles has to look for his tight ends in order to have some success. This is an aggressive Rams defense. They’re going to come after Foles, especially since they might not have respect for the Bears’ offensive line.

If he can find the tight ends underneath, then he’ll have some opportunities for the deep ball. The Panthers wanted to make sure Foles got nothing deep. They didn’t move up to stop the underneath completions. Foles was able to get some key passes completed on short or intermediate passes.

If Foles can just avoid the pass rush and get the ball off and hit his tight ends, he’ll have some success. If he hits his tight ends, the Rams may try to neutralize that, thus opening something deep. Foles is known for staying in the pocket as long as possible before getting the ball out. He has that patience and needs it with this Los Angeles defense. It starts with the tight ends, though.

Prediction: Graham has four catches for 42 yards and a touchdown. Kmet has 3 catches for 36 yards and a touchdown. Harris has two catches for 18 yards.
