Mike McCarthy has lost the Dallas Cowboys locker room

It’s clear that the Mike McCarthy era has not gone as planned. The Dallas Cowboys head coach lost his team, which was evident ahead of their Week 7 game.

With Dallas at 2-4 and preparing for the Washington Football Team, the headlines were all about issues in the locker room. According to Jane Slater, anonymous players were ripping the coaching staff saying they are “totally unprepared” and don’t adjust to anything.

In typical fashion, some players as well as McCarthy called out the anonymous players as being cowards for not putting their name to the claims. Jerry Jones, the owner of the team, went a step further and even attacked Slater — claiming one of the most respected Dallas reporters has no credibility.

"“It doesn’t add to anything. It doesn’t make me do anything other than almost smirk. Do you think [the report] has any credibility? Think about it. Do you really think it has any credibility?” Jones said via Selby Lopez of The Dallas Morning News. “You guys really think that those words that come out your mouth and you can’t say who gave you the information has any credibility? Think about it. It has none… “Get it on out there, reporter and say who said it. Get with it. Is the reporter trying to influence me? Of course not.”"

What all this adds up to is a team that’s in a complete free fall. We saw as much on the field as Dallas was trounced by Washington and now the head coach is mad that his team didn’t fight Jon Bostic when he drilled Andy Dalton in the head.

In the end, it wouldn’t be surprising to see this McCarthy experiment end up as a one-and-done deal after the 2020 NFL season. And if so, here are the top five candidates to replace him in Big D.
