The Browns have lost wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. for the year to a torn ACL.

Odell Beckham Jr and the Cleveland Browns may have got the win and moved to 5-2 on the 2020 NFL season but the LSU star won’t be suiting up in uniform for the rest of the season.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Beckham texted NFL reporter Josina Anderson that he suffered a torn ACL in the win over the Cincinnati Bengals, effectively ending his season. He will finish the year with 23 catches for 319 yards and three touchdowns.

This is a major blow to Beckham, who was already in the midst of a tumultuous week, having been banned from LSU facilities for two years in response to distributing cash in last year’s National Championship Game against Clemson.

As for the Browns, though they are 5-2, they lose a key weapon in the passing game and will now rely on their running game at a greater level as they look forward to the Raiders in their next game.

Losing Odell Beckham Jr. puts a greater amount of pressure on Baker Mayfield.

There is no question that the future of Odell Beckham Jr. in Cleveland is in question, but the eyes now turn to Baker Mayfield, wondering how he will proceed for the rest of the season given how stiff the competition is within the division and the conference.

Though Mayfield was excellent against Cincinnati, tossing five touchdown passes with only one interception, the value won’t significantly increase until Mayfield is able to beat the big boys in the division, specifically Baltimore and Pittsburgh, the latter being the only undefeated team left in the league.

As stated before, the passing game takes hit and the loss of Beckham puts extra pressure on such as Rashard Higgins and Jarvis Landry. However, the breakout performance of rookie tight end Harrison Bryant and the incorporation of rookie wideout Donovan Peoples-Jones should give Beckham a chance to improve his game.

In the case of Beckham, it’s a very unfortunate incident. Whether or not he returns to Cleveland next season or dons a new uniform remains to be seen. For now, it’s best wishes for a great recovery.
