3. Las Vegas Raiders vs. Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns have turned things around after a disappointing 6-10 showing last season, though not entirely. Even still, a revamped offensive line and philosophy on that side of the ball under Kevin Stefanski has created positive change for this team. They now sit at 5-2 on the season and, if the year ended today, they’d be in the playoffs.

Baker Mayfield has benefitted from the changes, albeit inconsistently. He’s coming off of his best game of the year in a win over Cincinnati. However, he’s also looked shaky in big games, namely against the two clear-cut best teams in the AFC North as the Browns were thrashed by the Ravens and Steelers.

Now the Browns welcome the Las Vegas Raiders to town in NFL Week 8 and will be across the field from an interesting team. Jon Gruden’s club has faced a fairly tough schedule to this point, seeing the Patriots, Buccaneers, Bills and Chiefs already this season. Even with that gauntlet, though, they’ve managed a 3-3 record.

But what we need to see from the Raiders is similar to the Browns: consistency. Both teams need to show up in big moments if they want to be taken seriously as AFC playoff candidates. So in a game that should be fascinating amid high winds, cold temperatures and perhaps some rain, we’ll see which team is better prepared to go headstrong into the second half of the year.
