NFL trade deadline candidates: Wide receivers

A.J. Green and John Ross, Cincinnati Bengals

Best trade fit: New England Patriots

The Patriots are at a critical point of their season and the post-Brady era. A losing record after the Hall of Famer’s departure may have a devastating effect on the legitimacy of the “Patriot Way.” They still boast one the league’s best defenses and of course, they still have Bill Belichick, but the play of the offense has dropped off considerably with their most glaring weakness being the lack of dangerous pass catchers.

Cincinnati has young talent at the position with Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins ready to usher the Bengals into the next era. Moving on from A.J. Green and John Ross should be an easy decision to make if, and when, the right compensation is offered.

Who knows, maybe the Patriots could get a discount if they buy in bulk?

Will Fuller, Houston Texans

Best trade fit: Green Bay Packers

Green Bay has one of the league’s best No. 1 wideouts in the game with Davante Adams. However, the Packers haven’t had a reliable complementary receiver since Jordy Nelson’s departure in 2017.

That could change if they were to make a deal with the Houston Texans for Will Fuller. Fuller’s game-breaking speed will bring a different element to their offense while also taking eyes off of Adams and allow the offense to become even more dangerous.

NFL trade deadline candidates: Tight ends

David Njoku, Cleveland Browns

Best trade fit: Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks rarely turn down the opportunity to acquire good players for cheap. David Njoku was a first-round selection of the Cleveland Browns in the 2017 NFL Draft. The talent is evident but it has yet to manifest.

Russel Wilson is having an MVP-type season and would likely be able to get the very best out of the young tight end. With the attention that must be paid to the likes of Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf amid monster seasons, Njoku could rejuvenate his young career in the Pacific Northwest.
