NFL trade deadline blockbuster No. 6: Adam Thielen to the Browns

One week after exploding on offense despite Odell Beckham Jr. tearing his ACL, the Cleveland Browns offense crashed back to Earth on Sunday in a loss to the aforementioned Raiders. Part of that undoubtedly had to do with high winds in Cleveland that limited much of the offense on both sides of the ball. But another part is the fact that the Browns are now thin at wide receiver.

There’s no question that, with Beckham and Jarvis Landry on the field, the Browns field one of the most high-profile wide receiver duos in the league. But with OBJ out for the rest of the season and perhaps done in Cleveland, there are no proven commodities at the position around Landry, who has been banged up himself this year. At 5-3, they could use someone to make a push at a playoff spot.

Despite the fact that the Minnesota Vikings pulled off an upset in Week 8 over the Packers, they have just two wins on the year and the postseason feels like a longshot. And given Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski’s ties to the Vikings, it makes sense as to why wide receiver Adam Thielen has been rumored to be a Browns’ target at the NFL trade deadline.

On Sunday, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler shot down the notion of Thielen being on the move at the trade deadline but, if we’re being honest, the organization said the same thing about Stefon Diggs, now a member of the Buffalo Bills. It could just be posturing from Minnesota and, if the Browns do want to make a serious upgrade at wide receiver with someone who fits right into the offense, Thielen is the right man for the job.
