Minnesota Vikings: Studs and duds from huge Week 9 win vs. Lions
The Minnesota Vikings picked up a big win over the Lions and these were the studs and duds.
The Minnesota Vikings entered Week 9 of the regular season looking to win their second straight contest against an NFC North opponent.
Already having taken down one divisional opponent in a stretch of three games against NFC North opponents spanning from Week 8 to Week 10, Minnesota returned home on Sunday afternoon to welcome in the Detroit Lions while hoping to continue those winning ways.
At U.S. Bank Stadium, the Vikings were able to accomplish just that, taking down the Lions 34-20 to extend that winning streak to two in a row.
In the game, Minnesota jumped out to a lead early in the contest and didn’t look back for the remainder of the contest. The Vikings opened the game up scoring 13 unanswered points to carry a 13-0 lead after the first quarter. Going into halftime, Minnesota was up on Detroit 20-10 at the break.
In the second half, it was much of the same for the Vikings, ending up outscoring the Lions 14-10 in the final two frames to pull away with a 14-point victory.
With the win, Minnesota was able to finally get into the win column at home after coming into the game with a record of 0-3 on its home field so far this season. The Vikings improved to 3-5 overall and into a tie with Detroit for third place in the NFC North, also now having won two straight leading into Week 10.
In the loss, Detroit falls to 3-5 overall and drop to 3-2 away from home on the road so far this year.
Minnesota rounds out a stretch of games against NFC North opponents in Week 10 when it hits the road to take on the Chicago Bears in the first game against the Bears on Monday Night Football in Chicago. Detroit gets back to action in Week 10 when it returns home to face the Washington Football Team on Sunday afternoon in Detroit.
