This was almost a huge upset for the Carolina Panthers, who deserve a lot of credit for coming out and battling the Kansas City Chiefs down to the wire. They were unafraid of one of the elite franchises in the NFL as they jumped out to an early 14-3 lead. Carolina had scored on a touchdown pass from Teddy Bridgewater to Christian McCaffrey and one to Curtis Samuel.

For McCaffrey, it was a great sight as it was his first game back from a high ankle sprain suffered early in the season. His return fueled the early lead but it wasn’t enough as the Chiefs fought back and ended up taking the lead in the third quarter when Clyde Edwards-Helaire scored from for yards out on a pass from Patrick Mahomes.

Before long, Kansas City was up 26-17 but Carolina again fought back and made it 33-31 when McCaffrey scored his second touchdown with under two minutes to go. Carolina did get the ball back and moved it to the 49-yard line. A 67-yard field goal try from Joey Slye was wide right — and if he made it, that would have been an NFL record.

Carolina is now 3-6 but they have been fighting hard in every game. They’re not great but it looks like Matt Rhule has them doing a lot of the little things correctly.
