It looked for the first 20 minutes or so of their Week 14 game as though the Miami Dolphins were going to take out the Kansas City Chiefs. They were up 10-0 and in the process, they were making life hard on the Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Miami had an interception on their first defensive series as Byron Jones grabbed a batted pass for his first pick as a Dolphin. They then forced a three-and-out on a drive that lost 32 yards (yes 32-yard loss on the drive) before picking off Mahomes again. This time, it was Eric Rowe.

The defense wasn’t done there as Jones forced a fumble and Xavien Howard extended his insane streak of games with an interception but by then, the Chiefs had taken a lead as it was 28-10 when Jones punched the ball out and 30-10 (after a safety from Chris Jones) when Howard had his pick.

To their credit, Miami continued to fight back as they chipped away at the lead and scored 17 in the final quarter. They had their final points come on a late field goal to make in 33-27 and an onside kick with around 20 seconds to go was recovered by Kansas City which kept them from having a shot at a Hail Mary for the win. Now at 8-5, they’re still in the playoff race but could have used a win here.
