Williams has been one of the Packers’ most consistent players this season, even if the stats don’t show it. He may not be flashy, but the fourth-year running back has the ability to do it all. Aside from running the ball, Williams is a threat as a receiver and is a stone wall in pass protection.
In fact, Williams has been an integral part of the Packers’ passing game, mainly by protecting Aaron Rodgers from blitzes. Every game it seems like Williams picks up a blitz on three or four passing plays, helping to extend Green Bay’s drive. He’s probably one of the best pass-blocking backs in the NFL.
As a runner, Williams is as tough as they come. He’s currently averaging 4.2 yards per carry, but many of those yards have come on short-yardage situations, which skews the final average. In total, he has 473 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 113 attempts.
Green Bay will need Williams to continue to be the thunder to Jones’ lightning. As the weather gets colder, Williams will be even more important.
