New York Jets: Justin Fields and 5 best options at No. 2 pick in 2021 NFL Draft
2. Gregory Rousseau, EDGE, Miami (FL)
The Jets need a spark on their defense. Perhaps the Jets plan to keep Sam Darnold and stay put at the No. 2 spot. If so, boosting their pass rusher is a necessity. Every team wants an elite pass rusher as a cornerstone of their defensive line. The 6-5, 260-pound Gregory Rousseau has elite written all over him.
He keeps himself clean with his length and quickness at the point of attack. Blockers don’t always get to his chest thanks to his ability to press blockers. The redshirt sophomore doesn’t just utilize his length though.
Despite his youth, Rousseau understands how to win at the line of scrimmage in a variety of ways. He’s flexible with great bend when getting underneath tackles. Moreover, Rousseau has excellent closing speed and length to take down the ball-carrier.
During his Cane tenure, Rousseau lined up all over the field. Thanks to his ability to get skinny and shoot the gap, he’s an excellent three-technique. His length allows him to line up at the five if he’s drafted to a 3-4 team.
Furthermore, he dropped back in coverage while with the Canes. Despite his size, he showed hip fluidity and smooth transition skills. Rousseau has superstar potential with elite traits to play for any defense and coordinator looking for a chess piece. He sounds like a perfect fit for the Jets.
